SANTA ANA – If you need a seminar on Talmudic law, you call Moses. If you need a hitting clinic, you call Ted Williams. If you need a party to honor a greasy, dago, wop-fest with plenty of spaghetti and Cinzano, you call paisan Dan “One Step Ahead of the INS” Romero.
In an unrelated event, Brother Romero is now on pledge probation at the Elks Club for harassing 65-year-old waitresses and making offers they can’t refuse to the Lodge Esquire.
Everyone was an honorary “Tony” for the night. Scott Good, of the Amadeo lineage, showed up with an “Italia” sweatshirt fresh from the Azzuri’s Copa Del Mondo disaster.
The bar scene got pretty hectic, with plenty o’ $3.00 highballs on me, so Dan enlisted his good wife Amy to sling some drinks. Art Martinez also jumped behind the bar to serve up some stiff ones, decked out in Mafioso black leather.
Tim Howell showed up with his latest lovely 19-year-old Little Sister graduate and a full plate of hair, while Matt Bradley showed up Tim Howell-style with a freshly shaved baldplate. Tim is working for Sprint in Sucramento, plotting the Kings’ revenge against the soon-to-be-dispatched Lakers.
Matt Sumrow, a gilded graduate of the nearby Santa Ana H.S., showed up with his lovely donna Ivana. Herman Quispe, former acting Upsilon Alumni president, announced that he will be a papa again, and he conveniently left the wife Maria at home.
Melissa Romero showed up with her typical collection of big-boobed blonde friends, which was more welcome than conversations with Bruce MacDonald, who wore socks for once. Bruce is happily squatting with Jeff Brown and Dave Canty at their Hermosa Beach pad with bad first-floor moulding.
Sean Topp and April Phillips came from a sidestop in Los Alamito, spousing the virtues of Los Al graduate, the hot-hitting J.T. Snow.
